City of Novato Nears Completion of Updated Climate Action Plan
The City of Novato is in the final stages of updating its Climate Action Plan, which will serve as a strategic roadmap to reduce local greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promote a more sustainable future for our community.
The draft Climate Action Plan 2030 (CAP2030) details specific strategies, measures, and actions to advance clean energy, sustainable transportation, and waste reduction initiatives. It also prioritizes the protection of Novato’s urban and natural environment, while expanding community outreach, education, and engagement efforts.
The initiatives outlined in the draft CAP2030 not only benefit the environment, but they also make good business sense. Embracing sustainable practices can help businesses reduce utility costs, enhance brand reputation, and attract environmentally conscious customers and clients.
The draft CAP2030 aligns with California’s statewide target of reducing GHG emissions 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and provides a flexible framework for tracking progress and adjusting strategies over time to meet evolving climate goals. Developed in collaboration with partner public agencies, nonprofits, and local stakeholders, the draft plan reflects a strong commitment to meaningful climate action.
The draft CAP2030 is available for review at novato.org/climateaction and will be presented to the Novato City Council for consideration at a Public Hearing on September 23, 2025.
