Distinguished Community Sercie Award Given to Brendan Moylan

On Tuesday, March 20th, the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise presented their Distinguished Community Service award to Brendan Moylan for his years of community support in Novato and the Bay Area.

Brendan is the owner of the Club’s meeting place, Moylan’s Brewery and Restaurant in Novato, as well as a founding partner of the Marin Brewing Company in Larkspur and the General Manager of Stillwater Spirits in Petaluma, but that is not why the award was given.  Brendan Moylan was recognized by the club for the positive impact that he has had in the community since he brought his family to Novato in 1989.

“I’ve never been a quitter” Brendan explained as he told about his first efforts helping out sponsoring his kid’s sports teams and even coaching them.  For more than 17 years Moylan’s and Marin Brewing Company have put on the BreastFest Beer Festival, a July fundraising event for the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic (CMC) in Oakland.  CMC supports underserved women with cancer by providing integrative medical therapies and social services and the events have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the cause.  For over ten years Brendan has also partnered with Blood Centers of the Pacific offering his restaurant parking lot for the center’s collection vehicle and sponsoring the event which has collected more than 1,600 pints over the years.

For the past six years Brendan has also contributed to helping get 250 kids per year through a basket ball camp at his alma mater St. Mary’s College in Moraga.  “It’s a great day” Brendan said referring to the basketball camp, “They learn skills, have lunch, practice what they learned and then end the day watching the college team play in their home stadium.  It’s a great experience!”

In all, Brendan’s companies have made over 500 separate donations to over 300 separate community groups over the years.  For these reasons, the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise believes that Mr. Moylan lives his life consistent with the Rotary International motto of “Service Above Self” and presented him with their Distinguished Community Service award.
