Pure in the Sunlight - Novato Theater
Pure in Sunlight - an Evening of Original Poetry hosted by Steve Rempe combines the talent of three amazing poets on one stage at the Buck Institute of Research and Aging auditorium.
Melissa Mack: Ms.Mack’s work has appeared in numerous journals, anthologies, and events, including Try!, The Capilano Review, Poetry Flash, Small Press Traffic’s Annual Poet’s Theater, and the Alette in Oakland Conference. She earned her Master of Arts in English at the University of California, Davis. She has been participating in collectively organized free
educaiton for adults for the past six years. She lives and works a day job in Oakland, California, and tries to live by two primary precepts: love one another and fight the power.
Steve Rempe: Born and raised in Marin County, California, Steve is currently living in Novato, Ca with his wife. Steve is a business owner active in the community, supporting the community effort to rebuild the Novato Theater as a board member, supports the Novato Youth Center and other community organizations such as school music and arts programs, civic planning groups, and a variety of arts and family organizations outside the Bay Area. He is a longtime participant and supporter of the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley and established the Galway Kinnell Scholarship for Poets.
Judy Halebsky: Judy Halebsky is an author of the poetry collections S ky=Empty, Tree Line and the chapbook Space/Gap/Interval/Distance. Fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the Millay Colony, and the Vermont Studio Center have supported her work. Her passions include the Moth-style storytelling and walking as a day-long activity. She chairs the Departmentof
Literature and Languages at Dominican University of California, and lives in Oakland. In support of the Poetry Writing Program for the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley est 1969.
The Novato Theater restoration is in its first phase of construction. Events like this introduce the community to Novato Theater programs and also promote the ongoing effort to raise funds for the capital campaign in order to ensure a target opening in 2017.
