Event Description:
Holds: Choreographies of Acceptance A Workshop with Indira Allegra Saturday, December 3 at 2:00pm A movement workshop, no dance experience required Holds are places where one can fit—an antidote for placelessness. Many people have a difficult time feeling a sense of belonging due to prejudices and biases against their culture, ability, class status, gender expression, and so on. In this workshop we will work as a performance ensemble to "weave" spaces for each other to "fit" into—holding and being held by others with our bodies. We'll be a human sculpture made of many people moving across the lawn at Marin MOCA, creating choreographies of acceptance for ourselves and each other. Indira Allegra's works draw from an investigation of inner space, animism and the ritual, relational and performative aspects of weaving. As a conceptual artist and recognized leader in the field of performative craft, Allegra takes weaving off the loom and uses it as a framework to make projects, performances and installations.
