Juried Artists of MarinMOCA Exhibition
Exhibit runs: July 23 - August 28, 2016
Opening Reception: July 23, 5-7PM
NOVATO, CA (June 2016) We are pleased to feature the Artists of MarinMOCA, a vital community of artists who support and sustain the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. The current exhibit, juried by Don Soker of Don Soker Contemporary Art, features 2D and 3D art from over seventy Bay Area artists. On view is a diverse body of work both in style and medium. Kate Zimmer’s painting, “Castle In The Sky” is made using acrylic on wood panel. She creates interesting textures and layering by scraping down and building up the surfaces to reveal what is beneath. Gloria Matuszewski’s pencil on paper drawing, “Aquamarine, Gold and Kelp” is from her pencil tapestry series. This body of work is inspired by textiles and the anonymous artisans and the labor involved. Matuszewski’s focus is to create a meditative field that brings to the viewer a sense of peace and completion.
This exhibition is free to the public and runs from July 23 through August 28th with an opening reception on Saturday, July 23 from 5PM to 7PM.
Running concurrent with the “Juried Artists of MarinMOCA Exhibition” will be a memorial exhibit for MarinMOCA member Charlie Kleinman, who passed away earlier this year. On view will be his sculptures in alabaster and marble. Charlie loved meeting and talking about art with fellow art lovers. Charlie’s first public showing of his art was in May of 2010. In the six years that followed he became an integral part of MarinMOCA’s artistic community, cheerfully helping out with countless exhibits and events. He was committed to recreating himself as an exhibiting artist, and inspired many of our fellow members with his enthusiasm. From Kleinman’s statement: “... my work is both visual and tactile. I want to evoke an emotional response. To me, it’s about feeling and seeing our world from various perspectives. I truly love working in and with stone. I love that I can create soft, smooth, caress-able, beautiful art from a rough block.”
