Billboards, Bars and Motels: 1950s Roadside Marin
"Billboards, Bars, and Motels: 1950s Roadside Marin" will be the topic of discussion at the Novato Historical Guild’s Quarterly Meeting on Saturday, December 14, 10-12 at Novato City Hall. Guest speaker will be Marin County Historian Dewey Livingston, who will present a visual feast of long-gone attractions along Highway 101. While his talk will cover the Golden Gate to Novato, Mr. Livingston will focus on such North Marin establishments as The Meadows, Bill's Station at Black Point, Club Rio, Joe's X-Road, and Dave's Village Inn. The event is free and open to the public.
Dewey Livingston became interested in Marin history in the late 1960s while at Redwood High School in Larkspur. In 1985, he became curator/archivist of the Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History, which led to a long career as a western National Park Service historian. For the past eight years he has been the map archivist of the Anne T. Kent California Room.
