You’re Invited: MarinMOCA’s Altered Book Exhibit and Live Auction
Fundraiser on May 20, 5-8 pm
Novato, CA (April 2017) The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art invites the public to the Live Auction and Closing Party for the Altered Book Exhibit, on May 20th, 5-8 pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to acquire an original work of art and support MarinMOCA. The Exhibition and Silent Auction is currently on view through May 20th. The highly imaginative work in the show explores a wide range of mediums and themes. Viewers will experience art that ranges from the profound to the whimsical.
Mary Austin from San Francisco Center for the Book chose 12 award winners from the more than 140 entries. Shown below is “The Omen” by Sandi Miot. A discarded pile of crushed book parts and broken spines, “The Omen” represents the potential fate of the printed word.
Says Juror Mary Austin: ‘The diversity of voices on view is impressive”

Shown below is “Beyond the Reach of Reason” by veteran Martin Lesinski, a book of poetry sharing themes of the difficult re-entry after active duty. The book is printed on handmade paper pulped from military fatigues and bound using medical sutures. We encourage art lovers of all ages to come in and see this wonderful collection of altered books.
