The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MarinMOCA) invites applications from local, national, and international artists for a one-year studio residency at the Novato Arts Center in Novato, California. This Artist in Residence program is designed to encourage the creative, intellectual, and personal growth of emerging and established visual artists. The residency offers the artist the gift of time to experiment and realize new work while giving the community opportunities to connect and learn from the artist’s art practice and knowledge.

Download the prospectus and please read carefully. Check your calendar to ensure that you can commit to the full residency.

The artist will be provided with 24-hour access to a private, enclosed studio (227 square feet) at MarinMOCA. This studio is equipped with lighting, heat, and a table and chair. The artist will have access to the on-site kiln, if needed, and the larger classroom space, as available.  There is a small kitchen on site with a refrigerator and a microwave.

The selected artist(s) will receive a stipend of $1,000 during their stay, with $500 provided at the start of the residency and the balance provided at the six-month point. All other costs for material or travel will be covered by the artist. The artist chosen will be a valued and integral part of MarinMOCA’s programming and outreach to the community, and in this spirit resident artists are expected to commit themselves for the entire residency awarded to them.

Resident artists are required to offer 6-8 hours per month of public programming to the community.
